Employee Engagement Survey Playbook

A ready structure for a quarterly employee engagement pulse.

1. Set the cadence

Quarterly is the most common rhythm - frequent enough to catch problems early, infrequent enough that people don't feel over-surveyed. Use scheduled publish/close so the survey opens and closes automatically each quarter.

2. Core questions (keep to 8-10)

  • An eNPS-style question: "How likely are you to recommend this company as a place to work?" (0-10)
  • A matrix question rating 4-5 areas on the same scale: manager support, growth opportunities, work-life balance, recognition, team collaboration
  • An open-text question: "What's one thing we could do better?"
  • An open-text question: "What's working well right now?"

3. Be upfront about privacy

Responses in this platform are tied to the respondent's account, not anonymous by default - say so clearly before launching, since it changes how honestly people answer. See our guide on anonymity limitations on the Employee Engagement solution page.

4. Close the loop

Share a summary of what you heard and what's changing within a few weeks of closing the survey - engagement surveys that go nowhere visibly train people to stop answering honestly.
